Religion

As of 01.07.2025, 27 religious organizations are registered and operating in the district: 16 Orthodox, 5 Catholic, 2 Old Believer, 4 Protestant.

There are a total of 23 churches in the district, 13 of which are architectural monuments (3 churches and 10 Orthodox churches).

A significant event in June 2011 was the canonization of the hieromartyr priest Konstantin Zhdanov (1875-1919). A shrine with a particle of his relics is located in the Church of the Resurrection of Christ in Disna.

The religious situation and state-church relations in the Miory district are developing within the framework of current legislation.

The district provides the necessary conditions for meeting the religious needs of believers and the functioning of religious organizations.

The district museum offers guided tours along developed routes with visits to historical and cultural heritage sites in the towns of Miory, Disna, and the village of Leonpol. Two weekend tourist routes "Temples of Miory Region" have been developed: the first route includes Miory (Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Church of the Deposition of the Robe of the Most Holy Mother of God in Vlacherne) – Idolta (Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary of the Scapular in the village of Idolta, chapel) – Perebrodye (Church of St. George the Victorious) – Nivniki (Holy Assumption Church); the second route includes Miory – Cheressy (Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker) – Grigorovichi (Church of Saints Peter and Paul) – Uzmeny (Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker) – Leonpol (Church of the Holy Trinity) – Idolta (Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary of the Scapular in the village of Idolta, chapel).

The main areas of activity of the district executive committee in the sphere of state-confessional relations are:

  • strengthening state priorities in confessional policy,
  • intensifying the activities of city and rural executive committees in resolving issues of interaction with religious organizations,
  • monitoring compliance with legislation on freedom of conscience, worship, and religious organizations,
  • supporting and developing positive processes in the confessional sphere,
  • preventing the spread of pseudo-religious, destructive organizations.

An atmosphere of mutual respect and dialogue has been achieved in the district regarding relations between believers of different denominations, state management bodies, and religious organizations.
