How not to become a victim of a cybercriminal

In recent years, there has been an increase in the number of crimes in the field of information technology. The vast majority of these are thefts of funds by acquiring bank payment card details – Article 212 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus (theft of property by modifying computer information).

How to avoid becoming a victim of cybercrime:

-Never, under any circumstances, disclose

your bank account and bank card details to anyone, including individuals claiming to be employees of banking institutions or law enforcement agencies.

-If you receive a call from an alleged bank employee,

you should ask for their last name and work phone number, then end the call and either call the bank yourself or ask the bank employee to call you from their official work phone number.

It is important to understand that a bank employee actually has access to the necessary information (cardholder's last name, passport data, card names, etc.).

-Do not disclose your full card number, expiration date, CVC/CVV code, internet banking login and password, passport details, or the numeric code from SMS messages during phone calls (even to a bank employee) or through social media communication.

If an alleged bank employee informs you that there are suspicious operations being carried out on your card, you should state that you will personally visit the bank to resolve the situation.

-Remember that bank employees never use messengers like Viber, Telegram, etc., to contact clients.

-For online payments, use only trusted payment services.

-Issue an additional card to your primary card, which you will use for remote payments.

-Do not store bank cards, their photos, or details in places that may be accessible to unauthorized individuals.

To access remote banking systems (internet banking, mobile banking), electronic mailboxes, and other resources, you must use complex passwords that prevent unauthorized access.

- If you receive messages on social networks from individuals in your "friends" list requesting bank payment card details, do not reply to such messages. You should contact these users directly through other communication channels or in person.

- Do not open files received from unfamiliar email addresses, accounts, or messengers, and do not click on links in messages about prizes or winnings.
