SPECIAL ATTENTION – PRESERVATION OF LIVESTOCK

The Miory District Prosecutor's Office in 2023, as well as in the elapsed period of 2024, has paid special attention to the compensation of damages related to livestock mortality and preservation. In 2023, 20 such claims were filed for a total amount of 25,640 rubles, and in the elapsed period of 2024 – 9 claims for a total amount of 1,541 rubles.

The defendants in this category of cases were, as a rule, livestock breeders, milking machine operators, heads of dairy farms, veterinarians, zootechnicians, and other employees of agricultural enterprises.

For example, during supervisory activities, it was established that the death of an animal in the pasture of one of the agricultural enterprises occurred because livestock breeders, who were grazing livestock during the summer period, failed to take adequate measures to provide the animal with water for a significant period of time, and the farm manager failed to ensure proper care and maintenance of cattle in accordance with zootechnical requirements, and did not supervise the work of the livestock breeders. By court decision, 1083.75 rubles were recovered from the shepherds and the farm manager in equal shares.

Or, for example, on one of the nights in August last year, 14 calves died on one farm in the district. Pathological examination of the animal carcasses showed that their death resulted from general intoxication of the body due to poisoning. During the inspection conducted by the district prosecutor's office, it was established that the shepherd did not properly perform his labor duties, did not properly monitor the animals, as a result of which a group of calves that had escaped beyond the electric fence ate plants and drank from puddles located in an area where pre-sowing treatment with nitrogen-phosphorus-potassium fertilizers had been carried out the day before, which subsequently led to their death. The total amount of damage caused was 16,847 rubles. The court, taking into account the financial situation of the defendant, recovered 14,319.95 rubles in favor of the enterprise.
