Child safety is the responsibility of adults!
Child traumatism and its prevention are a very important and serious problem, especially during the summer period when children have more free time, spend more time outdoors, and are left unsupervised by adults. It is impossible to forbid a child from exploring the world. It is every parent's duty to provide backup and prevent a possible tragedy.
Parents' work on preventing traumatism should proceed in two directions: eliminating dangerous situations and systematically teaching children the basics of injury prevention.
Parents' responsibility for their children is based on the duty to raise their children, take care of their physical and mental health, as well as their moral development.
In order for children to feel rested and healthy, and for summer holidays not to be overshadowed by unpleasant events, it is necessary to:
- form personal safety skills in children;
- have individual conversations with children, explaining important rules that will help save their lives;
- solve the problem of free time;
- explain that children and adolescents are prohibited from appearing on the street late in the evening and at night (from 11:00 PM to 6:00 AM during the summer period) without adult accompaniment;
- constantly be aware of where the child is and with whom, and monitor their whereabouts;
- do not allow children to talk to strangers;
- do not allow children to get into a car with strangers under any circumstances;
- convince the child that regardless of what happened, you must know about the incident. Explain that some facts should never be kept secret, even if they promised to keep them confidential;
- when the child is in the water, never take your eyes off them, explain that children should not swim alone without adults;
- to avoid becoming a victim of a road traffic accident, teach children the rules of the road, teach them to be extremely attentive on the road and in public places;
- study the rules of cycling with children. Remember that children under the age of 14 are prohibited from riding bicycles on highways and roads equivalent to them.
Particular attention should be paid to the issue of child deaths and injuries from falls from height. Every year, a large number of children are injured and die from falls from windows. Many parents allow their children to play on windowsills – this should not be done so that the child does not get used to it. A window and a windowsill are not places for games. Never leave windows open if there is a child at home. Window restrictors must be installed so that a child cannot open the window independently.
It is very important for parents themselves to behave correctly in all situations, demonstrating a safe lifestyle to children.
