«Safe Zone»
On April 26, 2024, on the territory of the Miory district, employees of the traffic police department of the Miory District Department of Internal Affairs will conduct preventive measures under the conditional name "Safe Region," aimed at preventing road traffic accidents of all categories, namely, involving vulnerable road users, promoting the use of retroreflective elements and high-visibility vests in the dark, reducing the severity of consequences resulting from traffic accidents caused by cyclists, persons without a driver's license, who are in a state of intoxication, as well as speeding violations and driving into the oncoming lane.
In January-March of this year, on the territory of the Vitebsk region, a decrease was registered compared to the same period in 2023 in the number (-4%; from 64 to 60) of road traffic accidents with casualties (hereinafter – RTAs), as well as in the number of injured (-624.7%; from 85 to 64), however, an increase in fatalities (+25%; from 8 to 10) was observed.
Despite the positive trend of decreasing overall accident rates, a number of categories of road traffic accidents have been recorded where the indicators show an increase.
At the same time, there was an increase (=40%, from 10 to 14) in road accidents caused by violations of the rules for passing pedestrian crossings, as well as an increase in the number of fatalities (from 0 to 1) and injured (from 10 to 13) road users in them.
At the same time, an increase in incidents caused by driving into the oncoming lane (+33.3%; from 3 to 4), as well as in the number of fatalities (from 1 to 3) and injured (from 4 to 6) citizens in them, was registered.
