«Motor traffic – no violations!»
Annually, with the onset of the spring-summer season, the number of vehicles on the roads noticeably increases, especially such as motorcycles, mopeds, and bicycles.
In January-March 2023 alone, 10 traffic accidents were caused by motorcyclists in the Republic of Belarus, resulting in 12 injuries. However, in April of the current year, 2 people died in road traffic accidents involving motorcyclists on the country's roads.
It should be noted that the main factor contributing to the increased severity of consequences in such incidents is the non-compliance with the requirements for drivers and passengers of motorcycles to use helmets when riding a motorcycle or moped.
According to research, the most frequent fatal accidents involving motorcyclists are, in 40% of cases, the motorcycle leaving the roadway, typically on a turn.
Approximately 18% are due to running a red traffic light at an intersection, often disregarding STOP signs, and even more frequently, resulting in a collision with another vehicle.
In 12% of cases, there is a head-on collision between motorcyclists and other vehicles.
Motorcyclist falls, i.e., loss of control followed by the fallen motorcycle sliding on the road, account for about 7% of the total number of fatal accidents.
These are the most common categories of accidents. The remaining approximately 15% are attributed to traffic accidents involving a second vehicle whose driver failed to notice the approaching motorcyclist in time.
In order to prevent traffic accidents involving motorcycles and other motorized two-wheeled vehicles, as well as to stop them from violating traffic rules, from April 27 to May 9, 2023, the State Traffic Inspectorate is conducting the republican preventive campaign "Motorcycle Movement – Without Violations!".
The State Traffic Inspectorate draws the attention of motorcycle enthusiasts to the fact that the decisive condition for safe motorcycle trips is strict adherence to the traffic rules.
It should always be remembered that a motorcyclist is less protected than a car driver, who can be shielded from injuries by the car body. When operating a motorcycle, the driver and their passengers, according to the traffic rules, are obliged to wear fastened motorcycle helmets.
Therefore, do not forget to fasten your motorcycle helmet, a device that can save your life and reduce the severity of injuries in accidents.
Always yield to pedestrians in places where they have priority of movement, and gesture them to proceed if they hesitate.
Ride your motorcycle in such a way that you have time to assess the road situation and take the necessary actions to ensure traffic safety.
Remember that the driver's worst enemy is alcohol.
