A working detector will save a life

Certainly, adherence to fire safety regulations in everyday life plays a significant role. However, fires still occur, and more often in residential buildings. The conditions that contribute to their occurrence are negligence or disregard for safety requirements.

While conducting various preventive measures, campaigns, and meetings with workforces and rural residents, EMERCOM employees consistently emphasize the necessity of acquiring and installing an autonomous fire detector – a device that is simple to operate and maintain, and capable of saving human lives.

Every year, dozens of lives, including those of children, are saved from fires thanks to detectors. This means that the importance of a detector cannot be underestimated. It will react even to a low concentration of smoke in the air, regardless of where the source of the fire is located – whether it is inside the house or penetrating from the outside through building structures, entrance doors, or windows. It constantly monitors the smoke concentration in the room and, when it exceeds a critical level, emits a loud, piercing alarm signal with a power of 85 dB, capable of waking a soundly sleeping person and drowning out any sound from operating household appliances. The detector must be operated correctly. It is not uncommon for the power source in an existing autonomous fire detector to fail, and the owners are not very quick to replace it with a working one. In this case, there is no chance that the autonomous fire detector will activate at the most crucial moment.

It is very important to choose the correct installation location. It is not recommended to install it in the kitchen – fumes from food cooking on the stove will quickly disable the sensor. Place it away from doors, as drafts in the room reduce smoke concentration. Most often, a fire detector is placed in the bedroom. However, it would be beneficial to have one in every living room. The optimal location is the center of the ceiling with a slight shift towards a window or door, where air currents move.

It is permissible to install an autonomous fire detector on a wall at a distance of 10 to 30 cm from the ceiling. Installation closer than 50 cm from a corner is not recommended.

The API can be installed independently. To do this, simply attach the detector with two screws to the ceiling. Additional information can be found in the user manual, which is supplied with the sensor.
