Child Safety – Advice for Parents

Every parent wants their child to grow up not only healthy and smart, but also to be able to avoid emergencies and not become the cause of them. How can you make sure your child learns the rules of safe behavior? The advice is simple: instill these skills in children from an early age. At a young age, children are naturally curious, and they absorb all the information from the world around them. And a few important recommendations, listed below, will help in learning.

Fairy tales, rhymes, ditties, nursery rhymes are the main means of teaching toddlers the rules of safe behavior. They can teach a lot not only to children, but also to parents. Have you noticed that fairy tales for the little ones often have a tragic ending? This is another reminder to you, parents, that children should not be left unattended ("Kolobok", "The Wolf and the Seven Young Goats"). When you read a fairy tale with your toddler, be sure to ask him questions: "Why did this happen?", "What did the character do wrong?", "And what do you think should have been done?" But do not judge the characters, but discuss their behavior: "Tsk-tsk-tsk! Kolobok did badly! You shouldn't run away from home. You could get lost! Or the fox will eat you!". By condemning the character's actions, you provide the child with correct guidelines for the future, helping them understand the fairy tale character's mistake.

DRAW!

Children perceive the world around them through images. This means that everything you talk about with your child, he should see in a picture. Therefore, you have a good opportunity to talk with him about safety rules at home. Draw a plan of your home with your toddler and mark the dangerous areas in red. Explain to the child why it is in these places that they should be careful and what to do in case of danger. Drawing is a universal way of learning, with its help, it is easy to instill safe behavior skills in a child:

- draw various situations with your child and talk through everything you depict;

- assign your child a drawing theme, and then be sure to ask the child why they drew it;

- create stories based on drawings; for this, you can use the MES coloring books.

 

LET'S PLAY!

Play is the main way of teaching children. It is through play that a child better remembers the basic rules. Introduce a new game to your playroom: "Rescuers Rush to the Rescue!". Be sure to tell your child about the work of rescuers, in what cases their help may be needed (fire, collapse, drowning, etc.), and how to properly call:

-     dial 101 or 112;

-     provide your address;

-     explain what happened;

-     state your first name, last name, and phone number.

Play the role of the dispatcher, let the child call and summon rescuers. Then switch roles. Thanks to the game, they will learn the necessary knowledge:

 The main thing that a child should know during a fire:

  • -     DO NOT PANIC!!!
  • -     do not hide;
  • -     run out of the house into the street;
  • -     call for adult help;
  • -     call rescuers by phone 101 or 112.

 Make a "reminder" with your child, which will list the numbers of emergency services and close relatives. Place it near the home phone.

Dear parents, these are by no means all the ways to teach a child safe behavior and form the correct behavioral model in emergency situations. Use your imagination, invent new games, then the time spent with your child will be not only engaging but also educational. Your child will surely grow up healthy, smart, and prepared for adult life!
