Basic fire safety requirements
The main fire safety requirements that citizens must observe to prevent fires when operating stoves are regulated by fire safety rules:
- Operation of a faulty stove is not allowed! The stove must be properly constructed and in good working order – this is the main thing!
- The stove's chimney must be periodically cleaned of soot (depending on operating conditions), but at least once a year. Cleaning can be carried out by the owner of the residential building where the stove is located, or by engaging specialized organizations.
When operating stoves, it is not allowed to:
– operate the stove if the firebox vault masonry has collapsed;
– use flammable and combustible liquids (gasoline, kerosene, diesel fuel, and similar) for ignition;
– operate the stove with open doors, except in cases where the stove design provides for operation with an open firebox (e.g., a "Russian stove", a fireplace);
– overheat it;
|
IMPORTANT! |
Overheating of a stove is a condition of the stove in which the body of the stove and chimney (masonry, bricks) are destroyed due to prolonged exposure to high temperatures during its firing. The cause lies in the high intensity and duration of stove firing. |
– place combustible substances and materials on it or at a distance that could lead to their ignition;
|
IMPORTANT! |
The safe distance depends on the surface temperature of the stove and the type of combustible substances and materials. It is recommended to maintain a distance of at least 10 centimeters from the stove surface, and at least 100 centimeters from the firebox opening. |
– fire the stove with coal, coke, and gas if it is not designed for these types of fuel;
– leave a firing stove unattended.
Also, the stove, chimney surfaces, and walls through which the flues pass must be in good working order, without through cracks, and to detect cracks in the chimney in the attic space at an early stage, they must be plastered and whitewashed. Annually, before the heating season, a visual inspection of the stove and chimney (flues) for proper operation must be carried out.
Ash, coals, and slag removed from the stove must be doused with water until completely extinguished.
|
IMPORTANT! |
Do not close the stove chimney dampers until the fuel has completely burned out or the coals (ash) have been removed from the firebox. This can lead to carbon monoxide poisoning. |
