On fire safety measures for polling stations

Responsibility for ensuring fire safety measures at polling stations lies with the heads of enterprises, institutions, and organizations whose premises house these polling stations, as well as with the chairpersons of the election commissions.

To prevent fires and outbreaks in polling station premises –

                                              it is necessary to:

Instruct persons working at polling stations on fire safety measures.

Equip polling station premises with primary fire extinguishing means in accordance with the requirements of the norms.

Post signs with telephone numbers for calling emergency rescue units near telephones.

Prohibit smoking in unauthorized areas (regulated by the general facility instructions).

Keep stairwells, main and emergency exits, corridors, and vestibules clear.

Maintain fire protection systems (fire automation installations) and fire water supply systems in good working order.

Inspect and ensure electrical equipment is in good working order. The installation of electrical wiring for lighting polling booths and areas for mobile trade shall be carried out in strict accordance with the "Rules for Electrical Installations." Equipment must be operated in accordance with the design and operational documentation for it.

Ensure that evacuation doors can be opened from the inside without a key. Evacuation routes and emergency exits must be marked with fire safety signs. Signs must be kept in good working order.

Do not allow fire-resistant and smoke-tight doors to be fixed in the open position, nor shall they be removed (unless otherwise provided for by the design documentation).

If more than 10 people are present on a floor at the same time, fire evacuation plans for each floor of the building or structure must be developed.

Equip polling station premises with electric flashlights in case of power outages.

Upon completion of work at the polling station, inspect all premises, disconnect electrical equipment, and ensure the absence of ignition sources.

Constantly observe the proper fire safety regulations.
