Why is an autonomous fire alarm needed in every home? To get an answer to this question, consider: would you like to be informed about a fire starting in your apartment or house in a timely manner? And is there a chance to detect a fire in the house at night, when a person is asleep and cannot smell smoke? It would seem that the answer is obvious. And it is not for nothing that people have long said: "A thief will pass by – he will leave the walls, fire will pass by – it will take everything and leave ashes."
But, at the same time, most people are confident that a fire can happen anywhere, but not with them. Many say that we do not drink or smoke, so we do not need a fire alarm. However, fires do not only happen for this reason. A short circuit of electrical wiring, a furnace not repaired in time, an iron left on, or food cooking on a stove left unattended, children playing with fire – this is far from a complete list of fire causes that are constantly featured in the reports of the Ministry of Emergency Situations.
Practice shows that in households equipped with autonomous fire alarms, the safety level of the residents is many times higher. Since 2009, autonomous fire alarms have saved more than 2500 lives.
In the evening of April 9, rescuers received a report of a residential building fire in the village of Dedino, Miory District.
At the fire in the Miory District, a man was woken up by a functioning autonomous fire alarm.
Upon arrival at the scene, the emergency services observed open burning of the house. At the time of the fire, the owner of the dwelling, born in 1962, was inside the house – asleep. The man was woken up by the sound of the activated autonomous fire alarm and was able to leave the dwelling on his own, unharmed. The man installed the alarm at his own expense in 2017.
As a result of the fire, the roof and ceiling of the house were destroyed, and the walls and property were damaged.
A check is being conducted regarding this incident, and the cause of the fire is being established. The version being considered is careless handling of fire while smoking by the owner.
On the afternoon of May 29, rescuers in Orsha received a report of a fire in a residential building.

He was awakened by the sound of the autonomous smoke detector, after which the man left the dwelling on his own and was not injured.

An autonomous smoke detector (ASD) is designed to automatically detect a fire (smoke) and alert about it. The device can alert about a fire independently or as part of an autonomous fire alarm system. An ASD is called autonomous because its design is such that it does not require connection to an electrical circuit or a control panel to operate. Inside the plastic casing, there is a power source – a "Krona" type battery – and components necessary for fire detection and direct notification. ASDs should be installed in all living rooms (except the kitchen) of households.
It is very important to choose the correct installation location for the detector. It is recommended to install the ASD in the central part of the ceiling with a slight offset towards the window or door – where constant air exchange is ensured.
The installation of the detector itself does not require special knowledge or skills. A detailed instruction manual is included with the device, containing all the necessary information on installation, design, and operating rules. The device does not spoil the interior at all; its mounting plate is fixed to the ceiling with screws, and then the autonomous smoke detector is installed (by turning clockwise until it stops). For disassembly, simply turn the device counterclockwise.
A flashing red LED signal on the API housing indicates its proper functioning and standby mode. Upon detecting smoke, the API emits an intermittent audible alarm with a steady red LED light. To stop the detector's audible alarm, eliminate the smoke source and ventilate the room.
During API operation, it is necessary to perform maintenance, which involves cleaning the detector's optical system using a hairdryer on a cold setting at maximum power. Without disassembling the detector, direct the airflow onto the optical element's protective mesh. Cleaning should be performed at least once a year and after every false alarm. The power source also needs regular replacement. The detector will signal when it's time to replace it by emitting a continuous short audible signal.
