What to do so that the forest does not "swallow"
If you are going to the forest, arm yourself not only with the most necessary items but also with simple safety rules.
- inform your relatives about your route and planned return time;
- wear comfortable and waterproof clothing, preferably bright in color. A headwear, high boots, and clothing that completely covers your legs and arms are mandatory;
- take water, medicine, a food supply, a knife, matches, and a fully charged phone.
If you get lost in the forest, calm down. Listen to the surrounding sounds. If you hear dogs barking, the sound of an axe, the noise of cars or a train – head towards the sound. Streams and rivers, as well as power lines, will also lead you to people: follow the current until you come across a path or follow the power lines, which will lead you to a settlement.
If you cannot get out before dark and help has not arrived yet, arrange a place for the night. Make a fire to cook food and dry clothes.
If you cannot get out on your own, call 101 or 112.
