Rules for Safe Behavior with Animals

- explain to the child that they should not approach domestic animals without adults, as they can injure or bite them;

- tell the child that they should be cautious with dogs, especially unfamiliar ones;

- explain that one should not approach a dog when it has puppies or when it is eating (the dog will defend itself and bite)

- the child should know that stray animals can be carriers of rabies, a disease dangerous to humans;

- explain to the child that they should not tease a dog or run away from it;

- one can simply walk around an unfamiliar dog;

- tell the child that if a dog attacks, they can give it the command "No", "Lie down", or throw something edible at it;

- If an animal bites the child, they must tell an adult about it (the wound should be treated with peroxide, the skin around the wound with iodine, a sterile bandage applied, and medical attention sought immediately.)
