About ponds

Changes to the Water Code are expected from January 1, 2027.

The new requirements will also apply to "kopanka" ponds - small artificial reservoirs that owners set up on their land plots.

Main parameters of a "kopanka" pond:

- Maximum of 1 pond per plot.

- Water surface area - no more than 0.01 hectares (1 are).

- Maximum depth - up to 2 meters.

- Plot share - the pond can occupy no more than 5% of the total area of your plot.

- Permitted use - only for personal needs (watering, fish farming "for oneself", decor).

The law also sets requirements for the location of the reservoir:

- Setback from the border with a neighbor - at least 3 meters.

- Distance from the shoreline of a natural body of water - at least 3 meters (the line is determined by the summer period).

Project documentation is not required for such a pond.
