Spring burning

Spring has arrived, nature is coming to life, and it's time to clear away everything that was once hidden under the snow cover. Many people believe that burning dry grass is the easiest and quickest way, and that burning dry vegetation promotes its better growth. In reality, burning dry vegetation and agricultural fires are a real ecological disaster. Many private landowners are unaware of the harm they are causing to the environment when they try to clear last year's grass with fire.

Grass fires spread quickly, especially in windy weather, and are very difficult to contain and stop. But the most serious consequences of arson occur when grass fires turn into peat and forest fires, in which animals and birds perish.

In accordance with Article 20 of the Law of the Republic of Belarus "On the Plant World," burning dry vegetation (dry plants) and their residues on the root is prohibited. Non-compliance with this requirement entails liability in accordance with the Code of the Republic of Belarus on Administrative Offenses.

Since March 1, 2021, the following liability has been established for burning dry vegetation:

Article 16.21, Part 2. Violation of fire safety requirements in forests or peatlands, resulting in the destruction or damage of a forest (peatland); entails a fine of up to 30 basic units (hereinafter referred to as b.u.).
