International Day of Environmental Knowledge

April 15 is the International Day of Environmental Knowledge.

The history of the holiday began in 1992 at the UN Conference in Rio de Janeiro, dedicated to environmental issues. It also focused on the role of environmental education for the population.

The main goal of today's holiday is to promote environmental knowledge and form an environmental culture among the population, to inform the public about the state of affairs in the field of environmental safety and the state of the environment, as well as to educate and train citizens capable of thinking ecologically.

Interesting facts:

In one of the Swiss cities, the use of cars with traditional engines is prohibited. Inside the city, movement is allowed by other means of transport (carts, bicycles, electric vehicles).

According to scientists' forecasts, in 35-40 years, a quarter of living organisms will disappear from the face of the planet. By the beginning of the next century, only half of the biological diversity that lives on Earth today will remain.
