President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko took part in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Tianjin. The international forum was held at the Meijiang Convention and Exhibition Center, BELTA correspondent reports.
The day before, in Tianjin, Alexander Lukashenko held talks with Chairman of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping, and in the evening took part in a welcoming reception in honor of the heads of delegations participating in the meeting.
More than three dozen leaders of countries and heads of international organizations are participating in the international forum. Some of them have been invited by the presiding Chinese side to participate in the summit in the "SCO plus" format. The current summit is the largest in the history of the association.
Taking the opportunity, Alexander Lukashenko has already held more than a dozen informal meetings with foreign leaders on the sidelines of the international forum.
Belarus became a full member of the SCO just over a year ago, and this is the first summit in which the country is participating in its new status. Belarus is among the ten SCO member states along with India, Iran, Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
As previously reported by the press service of the President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, in his speech at the meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the SCO, will present the Belarusian side's proposals for the further development of multifaceted cooperation within the "Shanghai family" and outline key issues requiring increased attention.
Among the most important documents, the heads of state will adopt the Tianjin Declaration and approve the SCO development strategy for the next 10 years – until 2035. In addition, it is planned to consider a number of other issues in the spheres of security, economic and humanitarian cooperation, and to adopt relevant decisions, joint statements, and sign interstate agreements.

The President of Belarus will also take part in the "SCO Plus" summit. The theme of this meeting of leaders is: "Implementing multilateralism, ensuring regional security and promoting sustainable development."
In an interview with China Media Corporation on the eve of his visit, Alexander Lukashenko shared his assessment of Belarus's membership in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation: "It is very important for us to be in this family. It inspires any nation, including the Belarusian one, that their President is part of this solid family."
He also emphasized that SCO members are states that largely determine the development of the planet today. Such powerful countries as Russia, China, and India form a kind of core, around which other developed and advanced countries have gathered.
