Trade unions should be a powerful base for maintaining stability in Belarusian society. This was stated by Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko on July 17, while receiving a report from the Chairman of the Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus, Yuri Senko, according to a BELTA correspondent.
Alexander Lukashenko first of all inquired about the situation in the trade unions, Yuri Senko's view on these processes, who has had enough time since his election to delve into the relevant issues and assess them with a fresh perspective.
"I have great hopes that trade unions will be an organized, powerful base for maintaining stability in our society," said the head of state. "They are now, perhaps, the most powerful 'party' organization. And in organizational terms, they rank higher than any party that exists in our country."
Alexander Lukashenko emphasized that he never overlooks trade unions, including when it comes to the socio-political situation in the country. "Because you should be grounded, and mostly you are (though not everywhere), in labor collectives, in people. That's why I always support trade unions, and I thank you and our trade unions for actively participating in the election campaign and providing great assistance in this regard to all those involved in the elections, including myself," the President stated.

Regarding possible shortcomings, the Head of State asked to report on them "without embellishment," especially since Yury Senko is, to some extent, an outsider to the trade union sphere.
"There are a number of issues. I received them yesterday, as usual, which you would like to discuss: overtime work, the harvesting campaign (we will also talk about this topic tomorrow), international activities. And about land plots - we had and still have a nationwide issue - to establish land plots that certain organizations have been using "since time immemorial," as people say. Legal documents need to be established," the Head of State listed the range of topics.
He also asked Yury Senko to give his assessment of the current work of the customs service in Belarus, considering that he had worked in this sphere for many years before, including heading the State Customs Committee. "After all, there are no former generals. Keep one eye on how the department in which you grew up is working," the President said.
