The CIS should be a strong union of powerful, economically self-sufficient sovereign states. This was stated by the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko in Moscow at the Commonwealth summit, a BELTA correspondent reported.
Alexander Lukashenko proposed considering how to more effectively utilize the potential of regional integration. "The common goal is clear. We need a strong union of powerful, economically self-sufficient sovereign states. We consistently speak of equal conditions and respect for national interests. Much has already been accomplished, yet there are still goals to pursue," the head of state said, outlining several areas in this regard.

First is strengthening the international status of the CIS.
"The Commonwealth must consistently remain on the global information agenda. We are united in assessing many events that affect the development not only of the region but of humanity as a whole. We speak about this at various platforms, but, unfortunately, often separately, the Belarusian leader noted. - We need to more frequently unite our voices into one - the voice of the CIS. This voice must resonate with full force and lead to concrete actions. Especially today".
Alexander Lukashenko noted the existence of a profound crisis in international relations. "As the President of Russia stated, it is irreversible. Could we have previously imagined that any country would ban entry to its territory for the UN Secretary-General (Israel adopted such a decision recently. - BELTA note) - the head of state remarked. - It is crucial to jointly oppose illegal unilateral economic restrictions. Today, they affect not only Belarus and Russia. In fact, all countries of the Commonwealth face the threat of secondary sanctions".
The second area of focus is countering the imposition of alien extremist ideologies, attempts to draw citizens into unlawful activities, including terrorism.
Alexander Lukashenko thanked his counterpart, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, for the timely initiative to develop a Cooperation Program in the field of deradicalization.
The head of state also proposed tasking the CIS Executive Committee with intensifying the exchange of experience among law enforcement officials specializing in cybersecurity.
