The implementation of the Union State integration programs was the subject of a meeting convened by President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko on January 12, a BELTA correspondent reports.

According to Alexander Lukashenko, the objective of the meeting was to review the progress made in implementing the 28 sectoral programs adopted slightly more than a year ago at a session of the Supreme State Council of the Union State. "In essence, this constitutes a joint action plan for Belarus and Russia for the forthcoming period," the Head of State clarified. "We agreed then that their implementation would enable substantial progress toward ensuring equal rights for the citizens and economic entities of both countries. This forms the foundation of our relations with our brotherly Russia—equal conditions for individuals and enterprises. It is precisely for this reason that we have pursued comprehensive solutions to numerous cooperation matters with the Russian Federation," the Head of State elaborated.

He noted that this primarily pertains to economic integration and the establishment of conditions for cooperation between enterprises of both nations.

The President recalled that the programs and departmental plans encompass approximately one thousand implementation measures, with specific deadlines and responsible officials established. "Approximately 70 percent of these measures have already been completed. However, a portion of the initiatives important to us (measures. — BELTA note) are lagging behind the agreed schedules," the Belarusian leader pointed out. "According to the reports I receive, our Russian partners are advancing rather slowly on a number of issues. Yet I always state that it is never the case that only one party is at fault. In certain respects, we are also falling short."

Belarus and Russia have agreed to implement 28 union programs that collectively contain about a thousand measures. They have been implemented by nearly 68% (671 out of 989 measures). As of the beginning of 2023, seven programs have been fully implemented, relating to goods traceability, transport, currency, veterinary and quarantine phytosanitary control, the financial sector, accounting, and the development of nuclear energy. Work continues on the implementation of 21 union programs, including in the fields of agriculture, transport, industry, and energy.
