The Day of Remembrance "Khatyn – a Symbol of Eternal Memory and Grief" was held in Miora, marking the anniversary of the tragedy of the Belarusian village that became one of the most harrowing symbols of Nazi crimes.
The district leadership, representatives of labor collectives and youth gathered at the district library to recall pages of history that must not be forgotten.
On March 22, 1943, Khatyn was destroyed by fascists: 149 residents, including 75 children, were burned alive. Only three children survived. The same fate befell hundreds of Belarusian villages that were never rebuilt.
A minute of silence was observed in memory of those who perished in Khatyn. Flowers were laid at the memorial monument honoring the liberators of Miory from Nazi-fascist invaders.
