90th anniversary of the birth of Hero of the Soviet Union Yegor Andreyevich Tomko

On August 3, the 90th anniversary of the birth of our fellow townsman, Hero of the Soviet Union, Vice Admiral Egor Andreevich Tomko, was marked. On August 4, a commemorative gathering was held near the memorial marker, attended by the hero's sister, Nona Sarkisyan, Chairman of the Miorany District Council of Deputies Valeriy Drabo, Reserve Lieutenant Colonel Sergei Zhabenka, Director of Miorany Secondary School No. 3 ( 2006-2017) Valentina Atroshko, district authorities, and representatives of the working and student youth of the city.

In 1978, for the successful fulfillment of command assignments and the heroism demonstrated in rescuing the crew and submarine, Captain First Rank Egor Andreevich Tomko was conferred the title of Hero of the Soviet Union, accompanied by the award of the Order of Lenin and the "Golden Star" medal. In honor of the legendary submariner, a street in Miorany bears his name, a memorial marker was erected in 2012, and in 2016, Miorany Secondary School No. 3 was named after Hero of the Soviet Union Egor Andreevich Tomko.
