Victory Day in Miory
The ceremonial events commenced with a memorial service for fallen warriors at the Square of Remembrance of Fallen Fighters in the district center.
Representatives of work collectives, public organizations, school pupils, residents and guests of the city gathered at the rally near the mass grave.
Honorary guests from the Russian Federation, great-grandsons of a Red Army soldier, Alexander and Vladislav Shmelevs, as well as close relatives of Stepan Bobylev, who fell on July 4, 1944 during the liberation of the Miory District in the years of the Great Patriotic War, participated in the celebratory events.
Members of their families traveled to the Vitebsk Region from the Pskov Region to join residents of Miory in paying tribute to those who gave their lives for the freedom and independence of the Motherland. Like many descendants of those who perished during the Great Patriotic War, the Bobylev family remained unaware for a long time of the resting place of his remains. It was only known that his life was cut short in the summer of 1944 on the territory of Belarus.
In accordance with established tradition, Sergei Semyonyshev, Chairman of the Miory District Executive Committee, presented youth membership cards of the BRSM public association to the young people.
Participants of the rally laid flowers and wreaths at the foot of the mass grave.
Following the festive parade, wreaths and flowers were laid at the memorial monument honoring the liberators of Miory and at the sculpture "Children of the World – Children of War".
