Solemn Meeting in Miory
As part of the celebrations marking the 79th anniversary of the victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War and the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from Nazi German invaders, a solemn rally was held near the monument to the liberators in Miory. The event was attended by district leadership, Sergey Meleshkin, Member of the Standing Commission of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus on International Affairs and National Security, Head of the Vitebsk Regional Department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, employees of the Regional Department of Emergency Situations, and schoolchildren.
With each passing spring, the events of the war recede further into the past, noted the district head, Sergey Semyonichev. The Miory district was occupied on July 5, 1941, and liberated on July 1, 1944. Unfortunately, we no longer have war veterans among us, but there are still its eyewitnesses: prisoners of Nazi concentration camps. Preserving their memories and remembering that the Victory came at a heavy cost to our people is a sacred duty of descendants. "We all need to cherish this peace that our great-grandfathers won for us," Sergey Olegovich emphasized.
As long as we remember, such terrible events will not be repeated, Sergey Meleshkin is confident. Furthermore, within the framework of the investigation into the criminal case on the genocide of the Belarusian people during the Great Patriotic War, every perpetrator will be identified.
Addressing the youth, he stated: "We are descendants of victors. Do not fall for fabricated narratives, and do not pursue the benefits that are imposed upon us by Western countries. Otherwise, you will lose touch with your land. Recently, I spoke with a veteran from the Braslav district. When asked what the Motherland is, he replied: it is the land where you were born and where they buried the umbilical cord that once connected you to your mother. His words embody the wisdom of the people. Love your homeland, preserve and multiply its traditions, and cherish this peaceful sky!"
