On August 3, a rally was held in Miory dedicated to the 88th anniversary of the birth of Hero of the Soviet Union Yegor Andreyevich Tomko.
This year marks the 88th anniversary of the birth of our fellow townsman, Hero of the Soviet Union, Vice Admiral Yegor Andreyevich Tomko.
On this day, in accordance with established tradition, a gathering was held at the memorial sign with the participation of district leadership and representatives of the city's working and student youth.
In 1978, for successfully fulfilling command orders and demonstrating heroism in rescuing the crew and the submarine, Captain First Rank Yegor Andreyevich Tomko was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union, along with the Order of Lenin and the "Golden Star" medal.
In honor of the legendary submariner, a street in the town of Miory has been named after him, a memorial sign was installed in 2012, and in 2016, Miory Secondary School No. 3 was named after Hero of the Soviet Union Yegor Andreyevich.
