Residents and guests of Miory gathered for the festive events dedicated to Victory Day.
The ceremonial events began on May 9 with a memorial service for fallen warriors at the Square of Remembrance of Fallen Fighters in the district center.
A member of the Council of the Republic, Vladimir Matveev, participated in the holiday events.
Following established tradition, Igor Kuznetsov, Chairman of the Miory District Executive Committee, presented the youth with membership cards of the public association "BRSM".
Representatives of labor collectives, public associations, school students, residents, and guests of the city gathered at the rally near the mass grave. Participants laid flowers and wreaths at the foot of the mass grave.
The March of Generations brought together hundreds of Miory residents in its ranks.
In memory of those who perished during the Great Patriotic War, labor collectives and school students laid flowers at the foot of a memorial marker honoring the liberators of Miory from German-fascist invaders and the sculptural composition "Children of the World to Children of War".
Following established tradition, representatives of the district's deputy corps, veterans' public associations and "Belarus", school students congratulated prisoners of fascist concentration camps and the family of a soldier who died during the Great Patriotic War on the holiday, presenting gifts and congratulatory letters from the President of the Republic of Belarus.
The celebration continued with a concert dedicated to Victory Day and the Year of Peace and Creativity.
A landmark event was the naming of Miory Secondary School No. 2 after Nikolai Izvarin, who died during the liberation of Miory, and the unveiling of a memorial plaque in his honor. Relatives of Nikolai Izvarin from the Rostov Region of the Russian Federation attended the event.
In the village of Leonpol, a memorial stone was unveiled at the mass grave. As part of the search efforts, six additional names of soldiers who died during the liberation of the Miory District have been identified. A total of 196 Soviet soldiers are buried in the mass grave.
