Driving with low-beam headlights, rules for transporting children in vehicles – employees of the State Automobile Inspectorate conducted a preventive raid in Vitebsk within the framework of the Unified Road Safety Day, reports a BELTA correspondent.
On the eve of summer holidays, traffic police officers are conducting preventive campaigns and organizing road patrols not merely to identify violators, but to once again remind all road users of safety rules and prevent accidents. In the regional center, on this day, road patrol inspectors monitored that drivers traveled with their low-beam headlights or daytime running lights turned on. Until June 5, a special series of events titled "Attention - Children!" is being carried out across the republic. This is a preventive campaign aimed at preventing injuries among minors on the roads. Violation of this requirement results in a warning for the first offense, and administrative liability and a fine of up to 3 basic units (1 BU - Br42) for the second.
"Today, a preventive event titled 'Safe Region' is also underway. Since morning, traffic police officers in all districts have been monitoring road conditions, identifying intoxicated drivers, unlicensed motorists, and those driving into oncoming traffic lanes. They strictly check how minor passengers are transported, whether there are child car seats or special restraint devices in the vehicles," said Nadezhda Kasperovich, head of the Agitation and Propaganda Division of the Traffic Police Department of the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, reminding that violation of child transportation rules entails a fine of up to 4 BUs.
During a raid in the regional center, traffic police officers handed out books on road traffic rules to drivers so that Vitebsk residents could refresh their knowledge. For children, gifts were prepared – brochures in which road safety rules are explained in a game-like format.
"Since the beginning of the year, two traffic accidents resulting in the death of children have occurred in the region – a passenger and a minor pedestrian who was running across the road on a 'zebra' crossing. Last year, during a similar period, there were no such tragic cases," Nadezhda Kasperovich noted.
In the evening, traffic police inspectors will pay attention to pedestrians. "State Traffic Safety Inspectorate officers will pay attention to the condition of pedestrians, whether they have reflective elements during dark hours, and how they cross the roadway. We would like to remind, especially children who are going on holiday, that crossing the road is allowed only at a pedestrian crossing, having ensured that there are no moving vehicles nearby," the department head emphasized.
She added that during the summer holidays, police officers will visit round-the-clock and day camps, as well as work teams, to conduct preventive activities. "We will conduct raids, including to detect violations while riding personal mobility devices. We call on drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists to be attentive and respect each other to preserve the lives and health of all road traffic participants," Nadezhda Kasperovich stressed.
