Miory Regional Executive Committee

Socio-economic development of the region, proposals for implementing student initiatives, and the upcoming election of the President of the Republic of Belarus. These and other topics were discussed during a meeting in the format of an open dialogue with the Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee, Alexander Subbotin, at Vitebsk State University named after P. Masherov.

Before the start of the dialogue, university students presented their projects developed over the past year. One of them was the social project “Vitebsk Without Borders”, aimed at assisting international students studying at VSU from more than 20 countries around the world. The project includes guided tours of Vitebsk in several languages, including English, Chinese, German, and French. The developers are confident that this will help foreigners better integrate into society and broaden their educational experience.

Alexander Subbotin supported the initiative and promised to assist in its implementation at the regional level. He also suggested considering the creation of projects dedicated to urban legends and local landmarks.

During the meeting, the Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee noted the importance of intergenerational communication and the preservation of mutual respect. He emphasized that the dialogue platform serves to sustain this process, as well as to discuss current issues such as the electoral campaign and regional development.

The Rector of the University, Valentina Bogatyryova, emphasized the importance of active youth participation in public life. She noted that 2025 will be a significant event for Belarus, as the Presidential election will take place this year.

The first question from a young VSU staff member concerned the involvement of youth in the electoral campaign. Alexander Subbotin responded that it is currently important to support the political and social activity of citizens.

“It is necessary to organize various events, ranging from business games to activities such as the ‘Unity Marathon’. This will help attract people and create an active society,” he noted.

During the meeting, one of the students also inquired about the qualities required for a successful career in public administration. The regional head advised giving careful thought to this decision, noting that administrative work demands experience, considerable effort, and dedication to the profession.

– This is a path fraught with challenges and not always met with gratitude. Should you ultimately choose to pursue a career in management, it is crucial to cultivate diligence, a strong work ethic, and perseverance, – he added.

Furthermore, the students expressed interest in Alexander Subbotin’s personal interests, particularly his engagement in wrestling and boxing. He openly shared that he took up these sports to learn how to defend himself and his loved ones.

– In my younger years, I believed that a young man should know how to stand up for himself, his family, and his partner, – he remarked, adding that while it would be more difficult for him now to switch to other sports, the choice he made during his university years has remained with him throughout his life.

For nearly two hours, the regional head engaged in an active dialogue with the students, openly addressing their questions and discussing key topics, such as official information channels as reliable sources, the most significant achievements of the Vitebsk Region that he deems important for the area, and many other subjects.
