Miory Regional Executive Committee
Fourteen districts of the Vitebsk Region have begun harvesting corn for silage. This was reported by Vitaly Vorobyov, Head of the Department of Agriculture, Crop Production and Feed Production of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, during a press conference, reports BelTA.
In the Vitebsk Region, approximately 93% of the area sown to winter cereals and legumes has been harvested, excluding millet, buckwheat, and corn. This amounts to approximately 264 thousand hectares. Slightly over 600 thousand tonnes of grain have been harvested at an average yield of 23 centners per hectare, which is comparable to last year's level. Harvesting of winter rapeseed has been completed.
"Today, all districts and farms in the region are actively joining the harvest of spring rapeseed. Approximately 17% has already been harvested at an average yield of 17 centners per hectare," Vitaly Vorobyov shared information. "Flax harvesting is coming to an end, with only a few hectares remaining. I believe we should complete this type of work today and proceed to the preparation of retted flax – its turning, lifting, and transportation".
In 2024, eleven districts of the Vitebsk Region exceeded last year's total grain harvest levels, and five farms in the region surpassed the threshold of 55 centners per hectare in total threshing. These refer to farms in the Beshenkovichy, Orsha, Postavy, and Talochyn districts.
According to the department head, the delivery of grain and rapeseed oilseeds under state orders continues in the region. Vitaly Vorobyov noted that family crews are among the leaders. In total, eight crews in the region have harvested more than 2 thousand tonnes of grain, 136 (including four family crews) – over 1 thousand tonnes. More than ten crews, including two young ones, have transported more than 3 thousand tonnes of grain.
Feed preparation work in the region has not ceased. Approximately 14.5 feed units per standard head of livestock have already been prepared. Fourteen districts of the region have begun harvesting corn for silage. As emphasized by a representative of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, the area sown to corn for silage was significantly increased this year – by approximately 30%.
"By the end of the week, I believe, all districts will systematically begin carrying out feed preparation work," anticipates Vitaly V
orobiev. - Winter rapeseed sowing has reached the final stage, as have winter cruciferous crops in general. We have already sown approximately 80% of the planned area, which amounts to 47 thousand hectares. We are preparing for the mass harvesting of potatoes. Some farms have already begun harvesting vegetables."
The harvest campaign is an important and final stage of the entire complex of technological operations for cultivating agricultural crops. Tasks related to the harvest were established back at the end of 2023, during the planning phase when winter sowing areas for the 2024 harvest were determined. A target was set to produce 11 million tons of grain, including rapeseed. As of August 20, Belarus has already harvested 7.629 million tons of grain (including rapeseed), comprising 6.555 million tons of cereal and legume crops and 1.074 million tons of rapeseed.
