Miory Regional Executive Committee
The Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee, Alexander Subbotin, participated in the unveiling of a mural dedicated to Yefrosinya Zenkova, Hero of the Soviet Union, head of the Komsomol-youth organization "Young Avengers", and Honorary Citizen of Vitebsk, at Secondary School No. 28 in Vitebsk.
– On the eve of a landmark date – the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Vitebsk from German-fascist invaders – we are unveiling this mural and thereby paying tribute to a true patriot, whose name proudly adorns this educational institution, – noted Alexander Subbotin. – It is symbolic that the mural appeared on the facade of an educational building, because children must know and be able to defend the truth about the Great Patriotic War. The image of the hero on the school wall will remind everyone of the heroic past of our fellow countrymen.
The Head of the Region recalled that Yefrosinya Zenkova, a native of the Shumilino District, managed to organize an underground group at the age of 18, which included students from the Obolye School, and successfully carried out sabotage operations at the risk of her life. And today, her personal story is a symbol of courage, determination, and devotion to her homeland.
– In the Vitebsk Region, the names of defenders of the motherland who have left their bright mark on the country's history have been given to most educational institutions. This is a significant contribution to preserving our collective memory of heroic deeds, which holds enormous importance for the patriotic upbringing of the younger generation. The Belarusian people, more than anyone, know the value of peace and Victory. And today, when humanity once again stands on the brink of a global conflict, we confidently defend the right to a peaceful future, – emphasized Alexander Subbotin.
The mural was created at the initiative of the management of the Department of the State Committee for Forensic Expertise for the Vitebsk Region. All members of the staff of the expert agency in the northern region supported the fundraising for its creation.
Note. In 1958, our fellow countrywoman was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the presentation of the Order of Lenin and the "Golden Star" medal.
An updated museum titled "Blockaded Leningrad" has also been opened within the school premises. It features original and copied documents, letters, and autobiographies of individuals who participated in the defense of Blockaded Leningrad, as well as newspaper clippings, photographs, awards, blockaded bread, and diaries. Tatiana Leonenkova, a teacher of the Belarusian language and literature, develops guided tours for students and trains young guides.
