The results of preparations for the XI Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia were summarized at a briefing held at the Media Center of the Vitebsk Region.
One week remains before the opening of the large-scale event, making it the right time to review the progress and hear the latest and most reliable information directly from those responsible.
And who could know better than the regional and municipal authorities of the host cities how we will welcome our guests, what the business meetings between the regions of these two friendly countries will entail, and what outcomes we anticipate.
– At a minimum, we have already achieved what we expected from the forum. First and foremost, the residents of the region have become more active and have made a significant contribution to improving our cities. Much has been accomplished, and these improvements will remain for the benefit of the people. This is already a notable achievement. Furthermore, the forum will attract a large number of guests, business partners, and tourists to our region. They will witness the beauty of the Vitebsk region and may wish to return here to propose innovative projects or simply visit. All of this will help propel the region to a higher level, – stated the Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee Aleksandr Subbotin.
The Head of the Region provided an overview of key facilities that have undergone renovation. These include primarily the venues hosting the forum’s main events – the “Vitebsk” Concert Hall, the Cultural and Sports Complex of the Summer Amphitheatre, and the House of Officers in Polotsk. Extensive reconstruction work has been completed at the “Vitebsk” Hotel and on Victory Square, a landmark location particularly significant during the upcoming celebrations marking the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the regional centre from German-fascist invaders.
During the forum preparation period, approximately 400 commercial contracts have already been signed. Export figures for the months passed this year totalled over 59 billion Russian rubles and more than 338 thousand US dollars. This activity will continue throughout the duration of the event. Additionally, 14 cooperation agreements are currently being finalized for signature, including those between the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee and the Administration of the Volgograd Region, as well as with the Governments of the Nizhny Novgorod and Orenburg Regions.
– I would like to express my gratitude not only to the builders but also to all residents of the Vitebsk region who took part in restoring order in their settlements and on their streets. Through joint efforts, we have done everything to enhance the beauty of our region. Today, one can be proud of the results of the work. We will continue at this pace. Not for guests or demonstrative displays, but for ourselves. After all, all the facilities prepared for the forum will become attractions for tourists, investors, and organizers of important events of any level, – explained the Chairman of the Regional Council of Deputies Dmitry Demidov.
The head of the regional legislative body added that the forum will help establish close humanitarian, friendly, and economic ties. Under current conditions, this is very important. The Russian market is key for Belarus. It is necessary to establish long-term cooperative relations.
The plans include signing cooperation agreements by the Regional Council of Deputies with the legislative assemblies of the Sverdlovsk and Kemerovo regions, Karelia, and the Moscow City Duma.
– The Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia is a crucial political event of the Union State of Belarus and Russia, – emphasized Dmitry Demidov.
The Chairman of the Vitebsk City Executive Committee, Gennady Sabynich, provided more details on the celebratory events of Vitebsk City Day, which in this anniversary year for the regional center will begin a day before the opening of the forum and will last almost a week.
The readiness to host forum participants was reported by the Chairman of the Polotsk District Executive Committee, Igor Markovich, and the Mayor of Novopolotsk, Igor Burmistrov.
