One and a half tons of stage props for the performance, an orchestra of 20 virtuoso musicians, performing without a conductor. What else will they surprise the residents and guests of the northern capital with during the Days of Culture of the Novosibirsk Region in the Republic of Belarus? Vladimir Babariko, Artistic Director of the Vitebsk Regional Philharmonic, shared details on this.
The large-scale event will be held in three cities – Minsk, Brest, and Vitebsk. The northern capital was chosen by the Novosibirsk delegation not by chance; it is here that Ivan Sollerinsky was born – a prominent musicologist of the 20th century and Artistic Director of the St. Petersburg Philharmonic, who was evacuated to Novosibirsk during the war years and spent his final years there.
“We have long maintained close cooperation with Moscow and St. Petersburg, as well as other Russian cities, but we only began building close relations with Novosibirsk last year,” noted Vladimir Babariko. “We are very pleased that the drive toward unity between our two fraternal peoples is so strong that our colleagues from northern Russia will travel such a great distance to present their unique programs to us.”
On May 24 at 7 p.m., the solo ensemble “Novosibirsk Kammerata” of the Novosibirsk State Philharmonic – a unique string orchestra of 20 virtuoso musicians performing without a conductor – will present to the Vitebsk audience the concert program “Concertogrosso – A Link Through Time”. The musicians will perform works not only by renowned composers such as Antonio Vivaldi, Luigi Boccherini, and Charles Gounod, but also by the Siberian composer Sergei Kravtsov, who has arranged several classical pieces based on themes by the band The Beatles.
On May 26 at 6 p.m., a major concert by the State Academic Siberian Russian Folk Choir will take place. In the first part, the ensemble will present the program “A Tribute to the Feat”, conveying gratitude to the defenders of the Fatherland who took part in battles to liberate the fraternal people. In the second part, at the request of their Belarusian colleagues, the ensemble will perform the program “Siberian Volnitsa”. This represents a distinctive showcase of the cultural traditions of the Siberian Cossacks and a creative interpretation of how the traditional culture of the peoples of Siberia influenced the formation and development of the Cossacy.
– The concert program of the State Academic Siberian Russian Folk Choir is highly spectacular and diverse, as it features not only singing but also an orchestra and ballet, – noted Vladimir Babariko. – For its performance, the choir brings one and a half tons of scenery, numerous costumes, and a large troupe from Siberia. This is a tremendous gift for us.
