How is the Vitebsk Region participating in the formation of the All-Belarusian National Assembly, and how was the selection of delegate candidates conducted? These and other questions were discussed at a press conference with the participation of the Chairman of the Regional Council of Deputies Dmitry Demidov, the Head of the Main Directorate for Ideological Work and Youth Affairs of the Regional Executive Committee Marina Novitskaya, the Deputy of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Vadim Gigin, the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Coordination Council of Public Associations and Political Parties and Deputy Chairman of the Regional Branch of the Republican Public Organization "Belaya Rus" Gennady Egorov, and others.

– We must realize that this year will see a key event in the political sphere of our society, because the VII All-Belarusian National Assembly will be historic without any exaggeration, – noted Dmitry Demidov. – The composition of the All-Belarusian National Assembly is currently being formed. The Constitution and the Law on the All-Belarusian National Assembly define the regulations for conducting this event, its size, and the procedure for nominating candidates to the supreme body of popular sovereignty of our country. The strategic and key powers of the All-Belarusian National Assembly have been defined, which relate to the foundations of our country's development, military doctrine and national security, as well as socio-economic development. The powers of the All-Belarusian National Assembly include the annulment of any legal act and the issuance of decisions mandatory for execution by all state bodies and officials of our country.

I would like to remind you that the first All-Belarusian National Assembly took place in 1996, when our leader Alexander Lukashenko initiated its convening in a difficult political situation, during the most arduous trials through which our people had to pass.

History demonstrates that had we chosen a different course at that juncture and succumbed to the temptations emanating from the West, namely liberal values and ideas, we would not have preserved our economic and industrial potential, as occurred in certain post-Soviet states. The political and spiritual-moral spheres faced highly serious challenges, with nationalist movements operating at a level bordering on a slide toward Nazism. It was therefore crucial for the President at that time to maintain the support of the people and the Belarusian nation, which led to the selection of a path aimed at realizing the people’s will and establishing genuine popular sovereignty. An absolute majority of participants at the I All-Belarusian People’s Assembly endorsed the President, and this backing enabled Alexander Grigorievich to rightfully represent the people, assume the role of our national leader, and steer the country along a socially oriented trajectory.

During the video conference, meeting participants examined the historical roots of the people's veche, discussed the engagement of youth in the future activities of the All-Belarusian People’s Assembly, and considered the participation of public organizations. Specifically, they addressed what the most distinguished representatives of the Belarusian Union of Women are prepared to contribute to the forum.

The Vitebsk Region will be represented by 142 delegates at the VII All-Belarusian People’s Assembly.
