В Витебске прошёл семинар ЦУР

Miory Regional Executive Committee

A seminar was held at Vitebsk State Technological University dedicated to the implementation of the Pilot Initiatives Competition for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in our region.

Any organizations registered and operating in the Republic of Belarus may participate in the competition. Their initiatives must align with at least one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, as well as one of the four SDG acceleration platforms.

— Those who make it into the list of competition winners will be able to receive funding to implement their projects — up to $22,000, — explained Elena Borzdyko, Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Economics of the Regional Executive Committee, who is a member of the Vitebsk Regional Group on Sustainable Development. — For some large enterprises, this might not seem like a very large amount. But for public organizations and budget-funded institutions, I believe it is a great opportunity to fund their projects and, through their implementation, promote the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals in a specific region.

REFERENCE “VV”. In our republic, the following SDG acceleration platforms have been identified:

  • a “green” transition to inclusive and sustainable growth;
  • focus on future generations: adolescents and youth;
  • digital transformations and social innovations;
  • gender equality in society.

Representatives from various regions of the Vitebsk Region, public organizations, and higher education institutions were invited to the seminar held by UNDP representatives in cooperation with the Economic Committee of the Regional Executive Committee. Several participants joined the session online. UNDP representatives outlined the international technical assistance project titled “Support for Efforts of the Republic of Belarus in Nationalizing and Localizing the Sustainable Development Goals” and presented specific initiatives aimed at addressing the established objectives. Furthermore, experts explained the requirements for preparing and submitting competition applications, discussed potential approaches to their development, and demonstrated the relevant platform and how to use it effectively. A quiz on the Sustainable Development Goals was also conducted for attendees, enabling them to consolidate and expand their knowledge.

The information provided during the seminar will prove valuable for preparing and refining applications. Applications will be accepted from May 1 to May 31 of this year.

The competition is implemented under the joint project “Support for Efforts of the Republic of Belarus in Nationalizing and Localizing the Sustainable Development Goals”, funded by the Government of the Russian Federation.
