Miory Regional Executive Committee
The promotional project "Choosing a Student Troop" brought together more than 150 participants in Vitebsk.
The launch of the republican promotional project in the northern region took place at the Regional Institute for Educational Development. Students from universities and colleges gathered here, who may join the ranks of student troops this summer. Young people were invited to interactive zones where members, commissars, and commanders of units active in 2023 presented their work. Those interested filled out application forms for employment and familiarized themselves with the achievements exhibition.
"Not only students of the Vitebsk State University named after P.M. Masherov (VSU) can join our unit "From Dawn to Dusk". We welcome anyone who has reached the age of 18 into the unit. It currently has 18 members, and we plan to recruit up to 10 more young people," noted third-year VSU student Valeria Krot. "Here at the meeting, young people have gathered who are interested in summer employment. They approach us, ask which camps we work at. Perhaps they themselves were campers at this camp as children, and now have the opportunity to work as counselors. This evokes nostalgia and some pleasant memories in them."
Potential student troop members engaged in activities offered to them at the interactive zones. In particular, students of the Vitebsk State Order of Friendship of Peoples Medical University (VSMU) conducted several master classes. Interested participants were shown how to properly apply bandages, measure blood pressure, and were introduced to surgical instruments and much else.
Each participant shared their personal experience in the student troop movement. Last year, Dmitry Kurets, now a fourth-year VSMU student, joined it for the first time as part of the medical unit "Heroes of Our Time". "We were in Novopolotsk at the republican medical labor project "Medicus" and worked in a hospital. I would also like to go this summer. Generally, life in a student troop provides many new acquaintances and opportunities not only within the country but also abroad. For example, students of the N.N. Burdenko Voronezh State Medical University also worked with us," shared the student of the Faculty of General Medicine.
Last year, as part of the student troops
worked around 6,000 young people from the Vitebsk region. Each year, this figure changes depending on the number of facilities and positions offered by employers. "Close joint work is being carried out between the regional headquarters and executive authorities with employers and host organizations. If we are talking about an agricultural brigade, weather conditions, including economic factors, affect the numbers. We hope that everything will work out so that this year we will meet the 2023 targets and exceed them," noted the First Secretary of the Vitebsk Regional Organization of the Public Association "BRSM" Vladimir Babichev. "I am convinced that 2024 will be successful and the plans set by the Vitebsk Regional Headquarters of Student Brigades will be fully implemented. And the young people will be satisfied with their summer of labor, the wages offered by their employers. The most important thing is that they will acquire new skills, make new acquaintances, find comrades who will subsequently accompany them throughout their growth and development in life".
The head of the regional committee of BRSM explained that today students of the medical university can go to work as part of a service student brigade at a health camp. And teachers - to construction sites as general laborers to engage in landscaping, greening, and so on. "Individual cases include when students of Polotsk State University, majoring in engineering and construction, represent our region at republican projects where specific professional skills are required (these are "Homselmash", MAZ, construction in Ostrovets). There are projects such as Khatyn or the patriotic center in Brest, where students from absolutely any university, regardless of their field of study, can go and work as general laborers", - Vladimir Babichev explained.
Meetings as part of the promo project "Choosing a Student Brigade" will take place across the Vitebsk region from February to June.
