The names of the winners of the BRSM youth award "Achievement" for 2023 were announced in the Vitebsk Region. The award ceremony took place at Vitebsk State University named after P.M. Masherov.
More than two dozen nominees were awarded prizes – school and college students, university students, and working youth. In total, more than 200 applications were submitted to the organizing committee, with over 40 selected for the finals. According to organizers, this year there were fifty more applications than last year.
For the first time, separate collectives, young heads of cultural institutions, directors, and choreographers were recognized in the "Creative Youth" category. The work of those ensuring food security was evaluated in the "Youth for Labor" nomination. Meanwhile, law enforcement officers and healthcare workers saving lives were named "Heroes of Our Time". The best were also determined in the "Media Youth", "Youth in Sports", "Mentor for Youth", and "Achievement" nominations.
The "Hero of Our Time" prize was awarded to traffic police officers Danila Savochkin and Artem Obukhov. The inspectors of the Road Patrol Service of the inter-district department will remember the first day of 2024 in minute detail. At that time, they were on duty on Tereshkova Street in Vitebsk. "We noticed a vehicle turning from Moscow Avenue at high speed with its hazard warning lights on. The driver caught our attention. We turned around and followed him, stopping to check his physical condition, as New Year holidays had just ended. The driver got out and asked for assistance," recalls Artem Obukhov. It turned out that the driver's child was in the car. The boy had injured his neck and required emergency medical care. Traffic police officers escorted the vehicle to the hospital, where the child was successfully operated on. "I think everyone in my place would have acted the same way," Artem Obukhov noted modestly.
The main "Achievement" prize was accepted by several nominees at once, including the student construction team "Eureka" named after Hero of the Soviet Union V.I. Eronko. Last summer, the young people worked for the second time at an international youth construction site deployed at the Vostochny cosmodrome. "In the firsIn that year, we were engaged in auxiliary work at housing facilities, constructing homes for employees, and this work was not new. We understood that we were at such an important facility. In the second year, we arrived already more confident in our abilities and knowledge, but worked at the Angara launch complex, which will soon be commissioned. The work was non-construction-related: team members assembled cameras and installed loudspeakers, which meant an even higher degree of responsibility. This was a highly valuable experience, given that many members of the detachment have direct ties to this field," shared Darya Yatskevich, former commissar of the student detachment and fifth-year student at the Faculty of Engineering and Construction of Polotsk State University named after Euphrosyne of Polotsk.
She added that work within a student detachment is demanding and physically taxing, and its members must truly embrace the youth movement. "The key is not to spare your time, to attend every event, and to seize each moment, because later such opportunities as those provided by the Belarusian Student Detachments will not exist," Darya Yatskevich emphasized. "My employment record already contains substantial professional experience. Working at major facilities such as the Vostochny Cosmodrome opens numerous career doors. When a prospective employer sees that you have worked as part of student detachments and served as chief commissar (organizational skills also play a significant role), significantly more doors open compared to a regular student who merely attends classes".
Diplomas and trophies were presented to the winners by representatives from various sectors. These included heads of government agencies and divisions, public organizations, and media outlets. "All candidates participating in the award ceremony are winners of republic-level events, competitions, and projects, as well as young people from the Vitebsk Region who initiate their own community activities. These are young individuals who have achieved outstanding results in their respective fields, yet still make time to promote their endeavors while actively participating in other community initiatives," stated Vladimir Babichev, First Secretary of the Vitebsk Regional Organization of the Belarusian Republican Youth Union (BRSM). "The "Achievement" Award has been held for the third time already and serves to motivate young people to further realize their potential and talents. The project allows for a thorough examination of the regioareas in which youth are engaged, and to find the best results."
The Deputy Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Vyacheslav Durnov, expressed gratitude for their work and congratulated the nominees and winners on their achievements. He noted that the youth in the northern region have actually accomplished much more. "Only through hard work can one achieve and attain certain milestones. In our country, all paths are open to young people. The key here is to set goals. Such goals are reached through honest and high-quality work. Then people will certainly notice your achievements, and you will have many of them throughout your life if you adhere to this principle," he advised.
The organizer of the award is the Vitebsk Regional Committee of BRSM. The project is carried out with the support of state and private entities, public and creative organizations, and mass media of Belarus.
