Students at Vitebsk State Medical University have drawn the lucky ticket, the university rector is confident. The university's ceremonial council meeting was held on the occasion of its 89th anniversary. On this occasion, faculty members, students, staff, and alumni of the university gathered in the “Vitebsk” concert hall.
The solemn event was attended by the Chairman of the Regional Council of Deputies Vladimir Terentyev, the Deputy Head of the Main Department of Healthcare of the Regional Executive Committee Nikolai Kasperovich, the Deputy Chairman of the Vitebsk City Council of Deputies Vladimir Belevich, the Chairman of the Industry Trade Union Vladimir Plytkevich, and other distinguished guests.
– A huge thank you for your monumental efforts, for everything you do for each person who becomes your patient. Thank you for your selflessness, care, and professionalism,” Vladimir Terentyev addressed those present in the hall. – It is also highly commendable that you are well-rounded, talented individuals; your artistic groups bring great pleasure to audiences at concerts of various levels. VSMU is a unique university where unique individuals come; they understand since childhood what they want in life and pursue the demanding profession of a medical professional, fully aware of its difficulty and the need for dedication, starting right from their student years. After all, not only a person’s health but also their life depends on what kind of specialist you become.
– Another reason for joy is the anniversary of our university, – noted in an interview the Rector of VSMU Alexey Chukanov. – The trend observed in recent years has been an increase in the number of international students who come specifically to pursue their studies in Belarus and, more particularly, at VSMU. We live up to our name "Friendship of Peoples," as the university truly fosters a close-knit community. Students from over 50 countries are enrolled here, which demonstrates that our Belarusian medical education is indeed of high quality. This attracts learners from afar, including from African and Asian nations. We are also developing new directions, such as partnerships with China, while expanding cooperation with India, Sri Lanka, and Malaysia. We look confidently toward the future, emphasizing that all these achievements are the result of the work of our academic and teaching staff. They are not merely recognized experts in national medicine, but undoubtedly professionals of world-class caliber. Specialists from abroad travel to us to acquire knowledge and skills, including in the field of healthcare organization. This was further confirmed by the visit of an Uzbek delegation, which toured VSMU as part of the International Medical Forum. University rectors and heads of Uzbek medical colleges expressed great appreciation for the organization of healthcare in Belarus. However, the most crucial aspect of medicine lies not in equipment, but in personnel. Without exaggeration, I can state that we are training specialists for tomorrow. Indeed, even today we must equip students with the knowledge they will need to apply tomorrow and the day after—knowledge that anticipates current trends and stays ahead of the times.
As part of the forum, VSMU has signed several agreements with our Uzbek counterparts to develop new educational programs in postgraduate residency and clinical residency, reported Alexey Chukanov. These agreements cover the training and exchange of academic staff, as well as the professional development of Uzbek specialists at the Faculty of Continuing Education of VSMU.
– Our faculty members will travel to Uzbekistan to train their academic staff. This is a significant achievement that we can rightly be proud of, – noted the Rector of VSMU.
On this day, several university staff members were awarded honorary certificates by the Regional Council of Deputies, the Main Administration for Healthcare, and the City Executive Committee, as well as letters of appreciation from the Chairman of the City Executive Committee, and awards from the Belarusian Trade Union of Healthcare Workers and the State Unitary Enterprise "Pharmacy".
By order of the Rector, employees from various university departments were presented with certificates in different categories in recognition of their outstanding performance over the past year.
A festive concert was held, prepared by the creative teams of VG MU.
