The Vitebsk Region hosted two delegations from Uzbekistan — participants of the medical forum "Days of Healthcare and Medical Education Uzbekistan-Belarus". Representatives of the medical education system and practical healthcare visited similar institutions in the Vitebsk Region. Heads of universities and colleges of public health in Uzbekistan familiarized themselves with the approaches to training specialists at the higher and middle levels at Vitebsk State Medical University and Vitebsk Medical College.

Vitebsk State Order of Friendship of Peoples Medical University maintains cooperation with many leading foreign universities in the field of medical science, education, and practical healthcare. In particular, in Uzbekistan, the university has established cooperation with higher education institutions of a medical profile in Bukhara, Qarshi, Termez, and Samarkand. Today, new contacts have been established. Joint programs for clinical residency training are planned to be developed, along with student and faculty exchanges. Both sides are convinced that such cooperation facilitates the accelerated exchange of modern knowledge and technologies, and helps develop innovative forms of medical education, science, and healthcare.

Practicing physicians, heads of hospitals, clinics, and territorial medical associations from the Central Asian country familiarized themselves with the opportunities for providing medical care at healthcare facilities of various levels in Orsha and Vitebsk.

In Orsha, the guests learned about the treatment approaches at the multi-profile City Hospital No. 1 named after N.A. Semashko and familiarized themselves with the operational principles of the inter-district center.

In Vitebsk, Uzbek doctors were informed about the structure and operation of the regional healthcare system, as well as how primary healthcare is provided in district hospitals, general practice clinics, and midwife-and-paramedic points. They were then introduced to the tactics, modern diagnostic and treatment methods for which the Vitebsk Regional Clinical Oncology Dispensary is renowned in Belarus. This year alone, the facility has implemented a method for detecting potentially dangerous tumors at early stages – a high-tech venous blood test PanTum Detect, begun using CAR-T cell therapy – a treatment method for oncology patients utilizing their own immune cells, and are also performing modern laparoscopic surgeries.

Uzbekistan is prepared to utilize the advanced experience of foreign countries, including the Republic of Belarus, in the transformation of its healthcare system. The guests noted the equipment and facilities of our medical institutions, the comfortable indoor temperatures despite the outdoor cold, and the hospitality of the Belarusian people.

— I primarily focused on the work of maternal and child health services. There has been no maternal mortality here recently, and infant mortality indicators are very low. I was also interested in the operations of the primary care level and FAPs, shared her impressions, Tozagul Kholikova, Head of the Dzhambay District Medical Association of the Samarkand Region.

The guests noted that there are differences in the healthcare systems of Uzbekistan and Belarus, which is why they came to see interesting approaches.

—We are united by victory in the Great Patriotic War, long-standing friendship, and a common language. Therefore, I believe there will be mutual understanding and close, cohesive cooperation, concluded Mikhail Vishnevetsky, Head of the Main Directorate for Healthcare of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee.
