Nearly 780 young specialists will begin employment at healthcare institutions in the Vitebsk Region this year, according to the Main Directorate of Healthcare of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee.
"The workforce of regional healthcare institutions will be supplemented by 203 physicians, 179 interns, and 396 mid-level medical personnel. Compared to the previous year, the figure for mid-level medical staff has increased by approximately 15 percent, due to a prior increase in admissions to medical colleges. The intake for physicians has remained unchanged. Conversely, the number of interns has decreased relative to last year. This is attributable to the reduction in admissions during 2014–2016, resulting in a significantly lower number of physician-interns this year compared to last year," the department noted.
The assignment of young specialists will assist in addressing staffing shortages across numerous polyclinics and hospitals in the Vitebsk Region. "It is anticipated that this measure will help alleviate the specialist shortage, particularly in the Polotsk area, Novopolotsk, and the Vitebsk City Central Polyclinic, which also experienced a demand for general practitioners. We believe that assigning the necessary number of specialists to these locations this year will provide substantial support," the department stated.
Regarding specialized medical professionals, the department added that there is a current need for general practitioners at the Rossony Central District Hospital. Anesthesiologists and intensive care physicians are required at the Braslav Central District Hospital, while surgeons are needed at the Gorodok Central District Hospital and in other areas of the region. Young specialists are primarily assigned to districts and cities with the highest demand for specialized medical personnel.
