The Head of the Vitebsk Region, Alexander Subbotin, discussed with the Deputy Khokim of the Kashkadarya Region of Uzbekistan, Alisher Zakirov, the progress of implementing the Agreement on Cooperation between the regions.

It covers the trade and economic, scientific and technical, cultural, and humanitarian spheres.

Welcoming the Uzbek guest, Alexander Subbotin noted that his attendance at the ongoing XI International Economic Forum "Innovations. Investments. Prospects" in Vitebsk is further evidence of serious intentions. During last year's visit of the Vitebsk region delegation to Uzbekistan, several breakthrough areas beneficial to both sides were identified.

Alisher Zakirov informed that the Kashkadarya Region is interested in supplies of veterinary medicines, baby food, and wastewater treatment systems. He also noted that tourist exchange requires development, as it remains at a very low level. For instance, last year only 50 tourists from Belarus visited the Kashkadarya Region. Yet historical sites such as Samarkand and Bukhara are located nearby. Alisher Zakirov proposed organizing reciprocal informational familiarization tours for tourism service operators.

The Uzbek side also expressed interest in school furniture and varieties of oilseed flax, whose fibers are intended to be blended with cotton during fabric manufacturing. One of the wood processing firms has prepared a technical proposal for the supply of components for constructing wooden houses.

Alisher Zakirov presented Alexander Subbotin with a gift from the Khokim of the Kashkadarya Region, Murotjon Azimov.
