From May 27 to June 5, the Ministry of Internal Affairs is holding the republican preventive campaign 'Cybersecurity Decade'
Insufficient digital literacy, as well as the gullibility of our citizens, have led to an increase in the number of internet crimes. This year, more than 800 residents of the region, including 14 minors, have fallen victim to cybercriminals. Almost half of the crimes are committed in Vitebsk, and women are twice as likely to be victims of fraud.
The majority of victims communicated in messengers with strangers or tried to buy goods on social networks. However, the largest losses were incurred by those who trusted the curators of cryptocurrency exchanges or investment projects, invested their money expecting quick and high profits, but ended up with nothing.
During the campaign, police officers will pay attention to students and employees of work collectives. They will talk about the most relevant fraud schemes targeting citizens and ways of being drawn into the cybercrime chain, as well as how not to become a victim of fraud.
