On the prohibition of going out onto the ice cover
As a result of the established weather conditions, the first ice is appearing on the reservoirs of the region, and going out on it can lead to tragedy. From November 21, 2023, the Miory District Executive Committee decided to prohibit going out on the ice cover of surface water bodies during periods of formation and (or) destruction of ice cover, as well as when the thickness of the crystalline ice cover does not reach 7 centimeters (for one person), and also during the period of intensive melting and destruction of ice. The decision was made with the aim of preserving the life and health of people, and preventing accidents on the water bodies of the district. During the period of ice formation, rescuers and representatives of the OSOVOD will conduct raid activities on the reservoirs of the Miory district. The first ice that forms on rivers and lakes with the onset of cold weather is dangerous, the Ministry of Emergency Situations reminded. Going out on it can lead to sad consequences and claim human lives.
Before going out on the ice, check the place where the ice adjoins the shore – there may be washouts, snow drifts covering them. In the mouths of rivers, the ice strength is weakened due to currents.
Before starting to move and during movement on the ice, check its strength with improvised means (pole, ski pole, etc.), in no case stomp on the ice with your feet. Remember that you can only go out on the ice wearing a life jacket. Do not allow careless actions, take care of yourself and your life.
